The National Network of Civil Society Human Rights Organisations “All Rights for All” (Red TDT) has posted on social media:
“Press release | Federal authorities commit to addressing forced displacement in Chihuahua:
To address forced displacement in Chihuahua, civil society organizations met in Mexico City in August with government and international bodies: @segob_mx [Ministry of the Interior] @gobmexico [Government of Mexico], @onumex [United Nations in Mexico] @acnurmx [UN Mexico – UN Refugee Agency]”
El Heraldo further reports: “The Undersecretary of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior will visit [the Mexican state of] Chihuahua to meet with communities affected by internal forced displacement and directly address their needs, as part of the commitments assumed by federal authorities after a series of meetings with civil organizations and representatives of displaced families.”
“Attention to internal forced displacement in Chihuahua reached the federal agenda, after civil organizations and representatives of affected communities held meetings with authorities from the Ministry of the Interior, the Presidency of the Republic, the Office in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).”
The article highlights: “The visit was one of the main agreements reached during the meetings held in Mexico City in early August, where the seriousness of the situation faced by communities in the Sierra Tarahumara, forced to abandon their territories due to violence, was presented to federal and international organizations.”
It further notes: “As a result of these meetings, representatives of the Government of Mexico expressed their commitment to work, in coordination with the OHCHR, UNHCR and civil society organizations, to address the needs of displaced communities and advance in a comprehensive response to the phenomenon of internal forced displacement.”
El Diario also highlights:
“Civil organizations requested that action be taken to address the needs of displaced communities and people.
All of these are members of the Civil Observation Mission are the National Network of Civil Human Rights Organizations “All Rights for All” (TDT Network), Peace Services and Advice (Serapaz), Peace Brigades International Mexico (PBI Mexico) and Mountain Human Rights Center (Tlachinollan), Sierra Madre Alliance (ASMAC). Center for Women’s Human Rights (Cedehm), Commission for Solidarity and Defense of Human Rights (Cosyddhac), Community Technical Consultancy (CONTEC) and the Nuevo Amanecer Collective.
Also present were people from displaced communities, who gave their testimony and spoke about the needs and difficulties experienced by families who suffer the dispossession of their heritage, communities, ways of life, tranquility and, in many cases, the loss of a loved one. As a result of these meetings, the authorities of the Government of the Republic committed themselves to act accordingly and in collaboration with the OHCHR, UNHCR and civil society organizations to address the needs of displaced communities.”
