The Peace Brigades International-Colombia Project has amplified on social media an Instagram post by the Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights (CREDHOS) about AGC paramilitary structures in populated areas.
“NAMING NAMES: IT IS THEM, AND THE AUTHORITIES KNOW WHO THEY ARE
We are sounding the alarm regarding the grave situation facing rural communities in Cantagallo (southern Bolívar) and Yondó (Antioquia) due to the continued presence and operations of *Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia* (AGC) structures within populated centers, hamlets, and rural areas.
We are not talking about an unknown presence.
Communities have reported the locations and operations of these groups, while CREDHOS has pointed out that their units and bases are known to the military authorities with jurisdiction over the territory.
What is concerning is that, despite this knowledge, there is currently no evidence of effective action to address this situation, protect the civilian population, or restore security conditions in these territories.”
We further note that the 6-page “Urgent Action” from CREDHOS highlights:
“TO INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS BODIES: In particular, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Colombia and the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, to monitor this urgent action and demand that the Colombian State fulfill its obligations to guarantee rights.
We request that all authorities to whom this urgent action is addressed inform this organization in writing—within the fifteen (15) business-day period stipulated in Article 14 of Law 1755 of 2015—of the measures adopted in response to the requests made herein.”
