Video still: Father Javier Giraldo talks about his invitation to Peace Brigades International to form an accompaniment project in Colombia.
The Peace Brigades International-Colombia Project has posted on social media:
“To Father Javier Giraldo, a defender of human rights, indigenous peoples and nature, an example of tireless struggle in the quest for Truth, Remembrance and Justice, walking alongside the most vulnerable communities, who has left his mark on the history of Colombia, the defence of human rights, the building of peace, and PBI – we wish him a speedy recovery with all our affection.”
Infobae further explains: “Jesuit priest Javier Giraldo remains under medical observation after suffering a fall at his home on the night of Monday, August 17. The severity of the blow led to his emergency transfer to the San Ignacio Hospital in Bogotá, where medical teams are closely monitoring his evolution, according to information known by El Tiempo.”
That article adds: “Since 1997, the priest has accompanied the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó in Urabá. Its work has focused on recording and denouncing the crimes suffered by its members, including the 2005 massacre, in which leader Luis Eduardo Guerra and members of his family were killed. PBI Colombia has highlighted Father Giraldo’s perseverance in denouncing these events and his contribution to the international visibility of the situation.”
Minuto 60 adds: “In 1988 he also participated in the creation of the Inter-Congregational Commission for Justice and Peace, later known as the Inter-Church Commission for Justice and Peace. From that space, she accompanied communities that were victims of the conflict and participated in processes of documentation and denunciation of events related to violence.”
After receiving requests from civil society organizations, in particular Father Javier Giraldo of the organization Justicia y Paz, and following an exploratory mission in 1993, PBI opened a project with offices initially in Bogota and Barrancabermeja.
Father Giraldo talks about that invitation in this video.
From PBI-Canada, we wish a speedy recovery and good health to Father Javier Giraldo with appreciation for all of his good works.
