PBI-Guatemala accompanies the CCDA-Alta Verapaz and Chipantun community members at court

PBI-Guatemala has posted:

“#PBI accompanies CCDA [Campesino Committee of the Highlands]-Alta Verapaz to a first statement hearing at the court tower in Cobán.

Members of the community Chipantun, Cobán, which is part of the Campesino Committee of the Highlands – region of the Verapaces, accuse two people of the crime of breaking and entering with violence.

One of the accused is already in prison for other crimes. The other accused did not show up, so today’s hearing was postponed.”

PBI-Guatemala has previously explained: “The CCDA of the Verapaces accompanies some 150 Q’eqchi communities, supporting them in the resolution of conflicts related to the possession of the land they inhabit.”

PBI-Guatemala began accompanying the Comité Campesino del Altiplano/Campesino Committee of the Highlands/ CCDA – The Verapaces in July 2018. Las Verapaces is the region formed by the departments of Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz.
