I hope you can join us for our upcoming webinar on Tuesday October 11 at 2 pm ET to hear social leaders from the community of San Luis de Palenque, Colombia about their experiences with Toronto-based Frontera Energy.

To register, click here.

After protesting against the company over social, environmental and infrastructure concerns, eight community members were arrested in a pre-dawn military raid that involved a Black Hawk helicopter landing on their farmyards.

Notably, that happened after the company signed a protection agreement with the military. That lead UN Special Rapporteur Michel Forst to express his concern about “the apparent connection between Frontera Energy, the army’s 16th brigade and the Attorney General’s Support Office in this criminalization.”

While this happened in November 2018, but the eight social leaders will be in court this coming October 3-6 on charges related to that time.

Our webinar will come just days after that and will give you an opportunity to hear first-hand what happened to them when they were arrested and what just happened in court.

The webinar will feature two of the social leaders: Ferney Salcedo and Yulivel Leal. It will also include Ninfa Cruz, a human rights defender with the PBI-Colombia accompanied Social Corporation for Community Advice and Training (COSPACC); and the community’s lawyer Reymundo Vásquez, who is with the PBI-Colombia accompanied Committee in Solidarity with Political Prisoners (CSPP).

To register for this webinar, that will have simultaneous Spanish-English translation, click here.

Hope to see you there.

Brent
