Mexico

Since its establishment, the Peace Brigades International – Mexico Project (PBI-Mexico) has stood alongside human-rights defenders, Indigenous communities, women’s rights organisations and environmental advocates in a context marked by forced disappearances, impunity and the shrinking of civic space. According to our site, in 2018 the Project supported 16 organisations with 10 international volunteers operating in both the north and south of the country — covering regions from Chihuahua and Coahuila to Oaxaca and Guerrero.

MexicoThe work of PBI-Mexico involves accompaniment in high-risk territories, monitoring of attacks against defenders, documentation of violations and coordination with global solidarity networks. For example, in October 2025 we reported on PBI-Mexico’s monitoring of Indigenous-community risks in Michoacán, where armed-group attacks and threats of displacement continue. see more

MexicoFor Canadian supporters and allies, Mexico offers a revealing window into the cross-border realities of extractivism, disappearance, land appropriation and transnational corporate-state linkages. This page presents an overview of PBI-Mexico’s approach and provides a curated selection of articles and reports that shine light on the defenders, movements and communities we accompany and the challenges they face.
