La Minga Kiwe, a media outlet that is based in Mocoa, Putumayo that reports on “our Uma Kiwe — Mother Earth”, has posted on social media:
“URGENT The Amazon is not a sacrifice zone!
International organizations are keeping a close watch on the decisions to be made by the Mocoa Municipal Council regarding land-use planning and the threat posed by a copper project in Colombia—spearheaded by the Canadian mining company Copper Giant Resources (Libero Cobre). This mining project has triggered an international alert concerning the future of the Amazon biome.
Furthermore, these organizations condemn the environmental and social crime proposed by the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella—which involves the aerial spraying of the toxic substance glufosinate-ammonium in the department of Putumayo—and they stand in support of the right to defend life.
Please share; the international community stands with the people and stands with the Amazon.”
