The Peace Brigades International-Honduras Project has posted on social media:
“’There won’t be a maize harvest, and it’s not just that a few plants have been killed – it’s long-term damage, direct damage; that maize was meant for food,’ denounce the Lenca Indigenous Council of the Río Blanco community, who have seen more than 3 manzanas of their harvest for personal consumption destroyed.
Following a visit to the community and with @copinh [the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras], PBI has been able to follow up with the relevant institutions on the numerous complaints filed regarding damage and threats, as well as to gather information on the community’s security needs and pass this on to the appropriate protection mechanisms.

On July 20, Copinh had posted on social media: “For the fourth time this year, crops belonging to the Lenca community of Río Blanco, in south-western Honduras, have been destroyed; meanwhile, compensation for the violence caused by the Agua Zarca hydroelectric project remains outstanding.”
At that time, Copinh shared the Avispa Midia article in which the Lenca community names a cattle rancher as the author of the latest aggression.
