PBI-Guatemala accompanies Verapaz Union of Campesino Organizations (UVOC) at Mesoamerican Network Meeting

On February 10, PBI-Guatemala posted:

“#PBI accompanies the Verapacense Union of Campesino Organizations (UVOC) to the Meeting of the Mesoamerican Network of Indigenous Community Radios, Garifunas and Feminists. The meeting brings together people from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica, and broadly deals with the situation of rural and campesino communities in the Verapaces region.”

UVOC has also posted on Facebook:

“Meeting of the Mesoamericana Network of Indigenous Community Radios, Garifunas and Feminist. Together with the presence of the countries of Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, during the meeting the topic of the situation of rural communities and peasant families, from the Verapaces region is developed.”

UVOC has 367 affiliated communities (about 50,000 families); 98 per cent of which are Indigenous Maya Q’eqchi’, Poqomchi’ and Achi.”

PBI-Guatemala has been accompanying UVOC since 2005.
