On April 20, CREDHOS tweeted: “Happening now. The start the decentralized session of the @asambleastder [the Departmental Assembly of Santander] in the municipality of Puerto Wilches. The objective is to discuss the implementation of the fracking pilot projects, their effects and impacts. Social organizations, leaders, entities and authorities of national, departmental and municipal order are involved.”

The National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) has issued contracts to Ecopetrol and ExxonMobil to conduct fracking pilot projects near Puerto Wilches, Santander in the Magdalena Medio region despite public opposition and human rights concerns.

The Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights (CREDHOS) works closely with the Committee for the Defense of Water, Life and Territory of Puerto Wilches (AguaWil), the Federation of Artisan, Environmental and Tourism Fishermen of Santander (FEDEPESAN), and the Yariguíes Regional Corporation – Social Research Group into Extractives and the Environment in the Magdalena Medio Region (CRY-GEAM).
