On April 8, Peace Brigades International-Canada posted this Urgent Action appeal asking people to send an email to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to endorse United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ call for an immediate global ceasefire.

More than 150 emails were generated within the first 48 hours.

By April 10, Canada’s foreign affairs minister François-Philippe Champagne said Canada “fully supports” the UN Secretary-General’s call for a ceasefire. Unfortunately, the day before this statement, Champagne also announced that Canada was lifting its moratorium on the approval of new export permits for weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.

The Canadian government has also decided to allow arms factories in this country to stay open despite the need for social distancing to address the pandemic.

People from across the Canada are continuing to send emails to the Prime Minister along with personalized messages.
