PBI-Colombia accompanies human rights defenders at Verification Commission session in the village of Puerto Nuevo Ité
On February 3, CREDHOS posted, “CREDHOS accompanied the peasant communities of the Northeast Antioquia, to gather information on super reports of Human Rights Violations and Violations of International Humanitarian Law.”
CAHUCOPANA also posted, “Within the framework of the program: Route for the protection of human rights defenders of the Colombian Northeast, integrated by the Humanitarian Action Corporation for Coexistence and Peace of the Northeast Antioquia (Cahucopana), the Campesino Association of the Cimitarra River Valley (ACVC), the Association of Agro-Ecological and Mining Brotherhoods of Guamocó (Aheramigua) and the Campesino Association of Catatumbo (Ascamcat), the first Verification Commission to the Northeast Antioquia was held today [February 1].”
The UN Verification Commission in Colombia notes that its role is to “verify the reintegration of former FARC-EP members into political, economic and social life and the security guarantees for former FARC-EP members, their families and communities in the territories.”
The CAHUCOPANA post adds, “This action was aimed at: Corroborating information reported in previous days of the situation of violation of human rights and the violation of International Humanitarian Law, by armed actors who are present in the village of Puerto Nuevo Ité, jurisdiction of the municipality of Remedios and that put life at risk and integrity of the civilian population.”
That post also notes, “In this Commission, it was attended by members of the Community Action Board of the village, delegates of Cahucopana, ACVC, of the Regional Association of Victims of State Crimes in the Magdalena Medio (Asorvimm), of the Regional Corporation for the Defense of Human Rights (Credhos) and the accompaniment of Peace Brigades International (PBI), Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT/ECAP) and International Action For Peace.”
